Emmetropia is called the ideal state of vision. The cornea and lens precisely focus the rays of light from an object to the retina, achieving the perfect image. In contrast to emmetropia, any refractive error is called ametropia. The most common refractive errors are myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia.
